I decided to start this blog as a way to express my feelings towards today's lack of etiquette. In an age where we all want something faster, common courtesies and manners seem to have been left behind. Let me start by saying I am in no way perfect and have been guilty of breaking many laws of etiquette but I am striving to be a better person, at least when it comes to manners. So consider this part of my journey as I befriend Emily Post and Amy Vanderbilt brushing up on my manners.
The Basics
Let's start with please and thank you. These three words go a long way. Showing gratitude and appreciation for small gestures like holding a door open or asking for the time not only make you look like a better person but add humanity to your words. It's like when you sneeze, it's nice if someone says "God bless you." While I am partial to gesundheit, I'll take when I can get in a sneezing fit.
Honorable Mentions
After someone says "thank you," "you're welcome" is a nice acknowledgement of their gratitude
After a burp or when moving through a crowd- "Excuse me" or "Pardon me"
Instead of saying "What? or "Huh?" if you didn't hear something- "I beg your pardon" just sounds more sophisticated
I think that's a good start for now. Thank you for reading!
